She met Lorne “Scotty” Taylor at a dance in Bowsman, Man., and married him in 1940. The eldest of seven children, Taylor was an avid reader who worked hard in school, eventually moving to Winnipeg to train as a teacher. Taylor was born in Swan River, Man., in 1917. “Thinking back, I can’t really think of anything she said she wanted to accomplish that she didn’t.” She did everything she wanted to do,” he said. Taylor’s eldest son, Dennis, said his mother’s determination enabled her success.

Taylor, who founded the Five Village Weekly (now the Rocky View Weekly), also received two Ryerson Press Awards for her novels Pine Roots and The King Tree. Gladys was predeceased by her husband Adolfo, sister Myrta, and grandson Harris and many other family and friends who made the journey before her. She walked in faith and love and shared her light generously with everyone she met. Gladys prayed the Rosary daily, including each of her loved ones by name. Gladys' blessings were many, but none greater in her eyes than her family, including three children, nine grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren (Henry, Adam, Roger, William, Aurelia, Thea, Rose and Sabrina).

She expressed great pride in their accomplishments, both big and small, and did not hesitate to give advice on how to live life well. She was completely involved in knowing them and being a part of their lives. She loved being "Lela" (Grandma) to Amanda, Luisa, Billy, Estevan, Gabi, Jennie, Harris, Amalia, and Isabel Patricia. Her most treasured song was The Rose when sung by Myrtelisa and Isabel. One of Gladys' favorite songs was En Mi Viejo San Juan. Her taste and sense of design rivaled anything Architectural Digest could offer, creating comfortable and beautiful homes for herself and others. She chose to see the beauty in this world and encouraged those around her to see it as well. Their life together was exquisite as they shared a love of travel, poetry, music and dance. With a dedicated group of friends, including Leonor and Tony Ana May and Paul Julie and David, they danced until dawn through the 80's and 90's.

In 1974, Gladys married Adlofo Malmborg Chipoco, a Peruvian poet, doctor and perpetual romantic. Although their marriage ended in divorce, their shared love for their children remained constant. Upon his graduation from the University of Puerto Rico Medical School, the young family moved to the US mainland where they raised three children, Frank Joseph, Myrtelisa and Isabel Maria. She passed this amor y orgullo on to her children and grandchildren.

Throughout her life, Gladys maintained a passionate love and pride for her Borinquén querida. In her work, she often walked foot trails to reach homes and visit families throughout the Puerto Rican countryside. She worked for the government’s Agricultural Extension Service, teaching principles of home economics, health and nutrition. Gladys graduated from the University of Puerto Rico with a degree in Home Economics. She was born with her twin sister Myrta to Juana (Jennie) and Jose Ramón Delgado at the family home in Arecibo, Puerto Rico on February 2, 1932.Īs the oldest of what became a family filled with first cousins, the twins were blessed in their formative years to be showered with love by a family of wonderful Tías and Tíos. Gladys Myrta Delgado de Chipoco passed away on September 3, 2022, peacefully and gracefully as was her way.
